The springs of Saint-Martin

The Saint-Martin is a stream which has its source in a fold of the Côtes de Meuse, on the territory of the Mont-Villers village. It flows at the foot of the hills and in the plain until it joins Bonzée, where it flows into the Longeau. Many villages have been established at the foot of the Côtes de Meuse, where springs are frequently found: the water which flows through the limestone of the coast arises when it encounters the layer of impermeable clay. Long before the arrival of drinking water from house taps, life was organized around the essential fountains and washhouses.
